Client & Project Background

Clients chose to modernize and update their home rather than sell in the rapidly escalating Kelowna real estate market.

Original scope of renovations increased in the middle of the project amplifying supply challenges, resources constraints and overall project load requiring SJT to significant juggle all customer projects to deliver within the promised timelines.

Work in Progress

Addition to home on upper level required an extension to the roof in winter months, which posed significant challenges from a safety and timing perspective.

The addition on the upper floor of the home expanded the living space creating ample room to open up the floor plan.

With the enhanced space, a modern spacious kitchen was constructed that includes an 11 foot island, breakfast bar and working station. This impressive kitchen was then augmented with a large dining room and a separate coffee niche.

The closed central staircase was modernized with powdered coated black railings and wood accents to further increase the openness of the new design.

Larger windows were ideally located to capture an expansive view of Okanagan Lake and downtown Kelowna as well as increase the overall light.

All of these changes create an open design grouping the kitchen, dining room and great room into one expansive living space for everyday family living.

Finished Product

Attention was paid to every finishing detail to maximize the value of this renovation, from installing a thicker countertop on the island that produces a butcher block look, to mounting a white apron sink that creates a modern country kitchen feel, and finally to installing a lightly contrasting coloured backsplash that ties the whole kitchen together.

Functionality was also considers in this build. The new kitchen provides double the storage space for the avid cooking enthusiast and includes special features like an appliance garage to tuck away the most frequently used devices.

As a bonus, a centrally located work station allows for multi-tasking, which is the ideal scenario for this busy family.

A change to LED lighting throughout the space increases energy efficiency and an upgrade to the insulation in both floor and walls results in reduced monthly heating and electricity expenses.

In 2020 we worked with SJT Contracting to remodel our home. The upstairs was basically stripped down to the studs, and Shea and his team helped to create an absolutely stunning, open concept living space, along with two bedrooms and the main floor bath.
